Ellie Collett and the Six ‘Vollie’ Drivers

Once upon a time, within a 117-mile-long motorway, lived a first-class team of volumetric mixer drivers and their manager, Ellie. With a fleet of six ‘vollies’ and the M25 to contend with every day, they whistle while they work, delivering ready-mix concrete to customers within the London Orbital.

Wave hello to our quiet concrete champions! Ellie Collett, Concrete Manager, and her team of drivers - Gareth, Damian, Keith, Curtis, Ian, and William – who are each responsible for the ready-mix supply of concrete.

FM Conway has been supplying concrete for more than 20 years, and the team does a sterling job of serving our internal and external customers with a smooth, reliable service.

The long-serving team, with some members having been with FM Conway for up to 15 years, proves that it’s not just our concrete that’s built to last.

Nine Facts About FM Conway’s Concrete Service You Probably Didn’t Know

  1. Customers can collect from our depots at Purley Oaks, Heathrow, and Dartford. Plus, we deliver ready-mix concrete within the M25 and the surrounding areas.
  2. We supply all standard concrete mixes (C10, C20, C30, C40).
  3. Our fleet of concrete vehicles is made up of six volumetric mixers (not drums), which means customers have the flexibility of ordering dry or wet concrete and the choice to adjust the mix on site.
  4. The service is available Monday to Friday, and on Saturday mornings. The team can help customers out of hours and will do their best to help.
  5. A volumetric mixer accurately measures the sand, ballast, stone, and cement on-site. This ensures a steady flow of freshly mixed concrete.
  6. Each delivery vehicle has a large capacity of eight metres, allowing for fewer trips to and from our depots, which helps reduce both costs and our carbon footprint.
  7. Using a volumetric mixer results in less waste compared to traditional drum mixers, which often require discarding unused concrete. With a volumetric mixer, we simply stop production when no more concrete is needed. This reduction in waste helps lower carbon emissions and is better for the environment.
  8. We offer in-house cube testing at our UKAS Laboratory in Gravesend, a method used to test the compression strength of concrete samples. There is an additional charge for this service, but we can offer it to any client.
  9. Ellie relies on her team of drivers to get the job done. Each of them is passionate about their work, understands the goals we need to achieve, and is genuinely motivated to exceed them.

Lili Jackson, Marketing Assistant, teamed up with Volumetric Mixer Driver Gareth Peverall for an on-the-road experience direct from Heathrow Asphalt and Recycling. Check out this short video reel for a glimpse into a day in the life of a driver. Lili captured our Term Maintenance team taking concrete deliveries for footways across South-West London.

Thank you to the whole team for doing an amazing job and providing a slick service.
