FM Conway secures West Sussex County Council’s latest carriageway and footway packages
Leading infrastructure services company FM Conway has been awarded the latest carriageway and footway packages for West Sussex County Council. The contract value, estimated at approximately £6 million, forms part of a wider £12 million investment in roads and footways across West Sussex.
West Sussex is continually investing in their network of carriageways and footways, making use of local resources from FM Conway’s Newhaven Asphalt Plant to ensure that this vital network keeps West Sussex moving.
FM Conway is supporting West Sussex by unlocking carbon savings through efficiencies, making the most of their approved budget and these carbon savings include the production of surfacing materials mixed at much lower temperatures than conventional asphalt, as well as using recycled materials from the West Sussex network.
FM Conway continues to lead environmental best practice and the drive for more sustainable ways of working, continuing to push industry boundaries when it comes to recycled materials, ensuring materials are kept in circulation for as long as possible, upholding the circular economy.
Newhaven Asphalt Plant is one of the most advanced in the UK, enabling the production of asphalt materials using the latest technology to reduce environmental impact. The plant produces a variety of asphalt mixes and supports FM Conway’s focus and investment in creating high-quality asphalt to create a sustainable and resilient network of carriageways and footways for West Sussex and the South East.
FM Conway will make use of its experience to support the local authority, demonstrating the strength of its offering which is underpinned by the skill and expertise of its great people delivering high-quality term maintenance and highways services.

Carbon reduction is such an important part of the County Council’s work and our officers continue to collaborate with contractors to explore using the latest technology to try to cut carbon emissions in highway improvement schemes. This includes allowing resurfacing materials to be mixed at much lower temperatures than conventional asphalt and using recycled material from our roads, which can significantly cut the carbon emissions attributed to a scheme, without impacting on quality.”
