FM Conway wins prestigious road safety award
Leading infrastructure services company FM Conway continues to be recognised for its commitment to road safety, winning the National Highways award for ‘Exceptional contribution to road user safety’.
The National Highways awards celebrates projects for their excellent contributions to the industry in alignment to their three business imperatives: Customer, Delivery and Safety. FM Conway fought off tough competition to be awarded the 2020/2021 ‘Exceptional contribution to road user safety’ accolade at a ceremony held at the ICC in Birmingham recently.
FM Conway has a parallel approach to National Highways’ Home Safe and Well Strategy 2040 for the elimination of fatal and life-changing harm on the strategic road network.
Using our Big Ten in 10 strategy we risk profiled our business, identifying that we travelled over 22 million miles per year on some of the most challenging roads. Statistically we found Occupational Road Risk is one of our highest risks within the business.
Our Occupational Road Risk initiative has targeted risk at the source, identifying improvements to safety critical controls across our fleet and enhancing training processes for our people, as well as other road users.
Innovation plays a critical part in FM Conway’s Corporate Strategy. Historically we have implemented a number of controls to our fleet, but recently we have introduced some of the latest technology, raising the bar on our vehicles designs and driver training including Direct Vision Cabs, SideScan®Predict, Viewmatics, Automated Braking systems and Electronic wheel nut indicators.
We have identified risk at the source by improving our training processes through Virtual Reality Training. Life-Saving Rules, Driver Risk-Profiling and Tailored E-Learning. with the aim of eliminating Occupation Road Risk across our industry, we have shared our strategy with competitors and industry bodies, as well as presenting new technologies that have been adopted to raise health and safety standards for all.
