Hospice charity gets £50,000 boost from FM Conway

Leading infrastructure services company FM Conway has donated £50,000 to Ellenor, a pioneering hospice care provider based in Kent, as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting charitable causes.

Working across Kent and south east London, Ellenor is the region’s only charity to provide support for people of all ages suffering from terminal illnesses. Ninety per cent of its care is delivered at patients’ homes to help them maintain normal routines as far as possible.

The donation to Ellenor came through the Conway Charitable Foundation – a charitable trust established in 2013 by FM Conway’s chief executive officer, Michael Conway, his wife Kim Conway and FM Conway central services director, Joanne Garwood. The Foundation donates £100,000 from FM Conway’s profits to worthy causes every year.

The £50,000 sum donated by the Conway Charitable Foundation could pay for 561 home visit chemotherapy sessions, or over 1,600 sessions of play therapy, which helps young patients and their siblings to cope with the emotional impact of their illnesses.

FM Conway’s Chairman, Michael Conway, said: “We are extremely proud to be able to support the great work that Ellenor does. FM Conway has a long history in the Kent area and was based in Dartford for many years before its recent move to a modern, new head office in Sevenoaks. This donation cements our ongoing commitment to support the local area and the communities in which we operate.”

Rachel Holweger, director of fundraising at Ellenor, said: “We are so grateful to FM Conway for supporting us in this way. As a local charity, we are delighted that a key local employer has recognised the vital work we do, supporting families facing terminal illness.

“Referrals into our children’s service, which covers Sevenoaks and the surrounding area, are increasing every week. We currently support 150 seriously ill children each year – however, we know that more than double that number need our help. This is why donations such as this are so vital.”

FM Conway is responsible for constructing and maintaining roads, buildings, structures and public spaces across London and the South East. In any given week its teams can be resurfacing roads in the West End, building new Cycle Superhighways, lighting bridges on the Thames or creating civic squares for London’s town centres. The company has long-term maintenance contracts with many of the London boroughs, Transport for London, and a number of major private sector clients.
