HoloLens
Merging the Real and Virtual World

HoloLens uses mixed reality to optimise maintenance capabilities across all aspects of the network.

Sitting within a pair of glasses, this mixed reality tool merges the real and virtual world to produce new environments and visualisations where teams can interact with physical and digital objects in real time.

  • Overlay ideas from design into a real-world environment to deliver a greater accuracy and perception from a project’s conception
  • Enable virtual working to increase health and safety, e.g. site audits and remote inspections
  • Share data in real time using cloud-based technology to deliver ease of access, greater efficiency and a time saving
  • Reduces the need for people on site, helping to reducing our carbon footprint when working

Map16
Innovating for the Future

Map16 is an intelligent asset maintenance solution that gives key decision-makers access to detailed asset and inspection information, to effectively transform the way highways assets are managed and maintained.

Working with existing asset management programmes, Map16 is able to aggregate all the data, including sensor technology, to provide a holistic overview of the assets. This insight allows highway authorities to move to predictive maintenance programmes, ensuring that resources can be used when and where they are most needed.

  • Migration to a predictive maintenance programme creating greater efficiencies
  • Use real-time information to enable optimal use of resources by automatically assigning a task to the best team or vehicle to service the asset against the planned programme
  • Use machine learning to optimise work programmes using historic and current data and enhance risk management

RoadBotics
Bringing AI technology to the roads of London and the South

FM Conway have partnered with US company RoadBotics, bringing AI technology to the roads of London and the South.

Using Artificial intelligence (AI), RoadBotics have developed a new method of pavement condition assessment which is set to transform highway asset management. The system provides analysis that is objective, time saving and affordable and its use means that for hard pressed highway authorities, planned maintenance becomes a simplified process.

  • A standard electric vehicle, equipped with mobile phone camera technology, is driven over a specified route to collect visual data of carriageway condition
  • This visual data is then uploaded to the cloud, and objectively rated on a 1-5 scale by RoadBotics’ Artificial Intelligence technology
  • Results are then compiled and presented alongside images of each corresponding 3m section of carriageway to inform future maintenance strategies

Augmented Reality
The Latest Reality Technology

FM Conway’s Consultancy team has combined advanced ground penetrating radar (GPR) with the latest augmented reality technology to create an extension of the real world, allowing site-based teams to visualise the geospatial position of utilities and shallow structures via handheld tablets in the field.

The myriad of shallow subsurface assets is a major challenge facing contractors working in London and with the introduction of the technology we can support site operations and minimise the risk for our partners, as well as working with them to develop the system’s applications further.

What Augmented Reality can do for you:

  • Provide a greater accuracy for digging around utilities and reduce disruption to the borough
  • Provide a cost saving associated with the risk of striking utilities
  • Increase efficiency for surveys through remote working possibilities
  • Increase health and safety as a result of safer digging practices
